John Chohlis papers, 1943-1980.

Collection contains John Chohlis' personal correspondence and subject files (which contain correspondence, clippings, manuscripts, photographs, and printed materials). Collection also contains Chohlis' Ralston Purina presentation scripts and Ralston Purina film strip presentations (which consist of film strips and audio cassettes). Speeches presented by Chohlis (originals and copies), clippings of articles written by Chohlis, Ralston Purina newsletters edited by Chohlis ("Purina Graph" and "Chips for Checkerboard Chowpokes"), and a few artifacts are in this collection as well.

John Chohlis (1913-1980) was a cattle industry magazine editor and cattle industry executive during the second half of the twentieth century. Chohlis was born on the Greek island of Crete and immigrated to the United States with his family in 1916. He was educated at the University of Idaho and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Chohlis joined the "Western Livestock Journal" in 1952, and served as this magazine's field editor (1952-1960) and editor (1960-1968). From 1969 until his deat...
